Significance of Karwa Chauth

Karwa Chauth is the most significant fast for the women in the Hindu world. There is a belief that Lord Krishna explained the importance of this fast to Draupadi and that Lord Shiva taught it to Goddess Parvati. The wives observe this fast, seeking blessings from the Moon, as indicated by the fact that it is considered a symbol of peace, longevity, and marital bliss. Karwa Chauth Puja Vidhi 2024

1. Preparation: Clean all the area where puja will be done. Spread a white cloth on a raised platform called Chowki. Sit the idols of Gauri and Ganesh on it. Place the Karwa, Diya and other material for puja in their respective places.
2. Kalash: Fill a Kalash with water and place a lamp on top. Provide the Karwa with Roli, Akshat, Sindoor, and flowers.
3. Puja: Now do puja in the evening in the auspicious time. Listen or recite Karwa Chauth Katha keeping water and Akshat in your hand.
4. Moon Worship: As soon as the Moon appears, women have to present water (Arghya) and pray to God for a long, prosperous life for their husbands. Then they will be able to offer Arghya to their husbands, which will act as a means of breaking the fast of women with the sacred and pure water offered by their husbands.

Karwa Chauth 2024: Important Rules and Precautions

• Only women who are wed or engaged should fast.
• The fast is to be continued from sunrise till the moonrise and can be done without any water (Nirjala) or with little water only in special circumstances.
• Avoid wearing black and white pieces; instead, put on whatever is considered traditional: red or yellow.
• Women should dress up properly in traditional attires with full bridal adorns.

Tips for a Happy Married Life

For peace and prosperity, the following rituals are advised:

• At midnight, light a ghee lamp in front of Lord Ganesh. Offer yellow cloth and turmeric (two knots of turmeric) to him by chanting the mantra Om Gan Ganapataye Namah. Keep the turmeric tied in yellow cloth for good luck.

For enhancing love among husband and wife:

• Wear yellow or red clothes at night on Karwa Chauth night and add white sandalwood in a small vessel of water. Offer it to the Moon with closed eyes reciting the mantra Om Umamaheshwaraya Namah. Then pray Lord Shiva to have a happy, blissful married life.
