Dussehra 2024: Vijayadashami Date, Time, Muhurat in India

Vijayadashami: Dussehra 2024 Date, Time, Muhurat

Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, is one of the most significant Hindu festivals, celebrated across India and Nepal. It marks the victory of good over evil and falls at the end of the nine-day festival of Navratri. In 2024, Dussehra will be celebrated on Saturday, October 12.

Why is Dussehra 2024 Celebrated?

  1. Victory of Lord Rama over Ravana: The festival commemorates the triumph of Lord Rama, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu, over Ravana, the ten-headed demon king of Lanka. This victory signifies the defeat of evil forces and the restoration of righteousness.

  2. Victory of Goddess Durga over Mahishasura: Dussehra also marks the victory of Goddess Durga over the buffalo demon Mahishasura. This symbolizes the triumph of the divine feminine energy over evil, celebrated especially in Eastern India, particularly in West Bengal.

Significance of Dussehra

The festival is a powerful reminder of the victory of dharma (righteousness) over adharma (unrighteousness). It is celebrated with great enthusiasm, including elaborate processions, enactments of the Ramayana (Ramlila), and the burning of effigies of Ravana, symbolizing the end of evil.
