On the seventh day of Shardiya Navratri 2024, also known as Maha Saptami, devotees worship the seventh form of Goddess Durga, Maa Kalratri. Known as the fiercest form of Durga, Maa Kalratri is revered for her ability to destroy evil forces. Despite her fearsome appearance, she is also referred to as Shubhankari, meaning one who bestows auspicious results. The seventh day is considered highly significant for invoking her blessings to ward off evil and untimely death.

- Start with Ganesha veneration
- Light incense and lamps; place an image of Maa Kalratri or Maa Durga
- Offer items such as Akshat, incense, flowers, sandalwood, and jaggery
- Chant mantras and recite the Durga Saptashati

Significance of Worshiping Maa Kalratri

Maa Kalratri is known for her power to destroy demons and malevolent spirits, and she eliminates the fears and worries of her devotees. She also grants them protection from untimely death and blesses them with auspicious outcomes in life.

Puja Vidhi (Worship Method)

  1. Preparation: On the seventh day of Navratri, wake up early and take a bath. Wear clean clothes and prepare the area for worship.
  2. Ganesha Veneration: Begin the rituals by invoking Lord Ganesha, as he is the remover of obstacles.
  3. Setup: Light incense and lamps. Place an image or idol of Maa Kalratri. If you don’t have her image, you can worship an image of Maa Durga instead.
  4. Offerings: Use Akshat (unbroken rice), incense, Ratrani flowers, sandalwood, and vermilion for her worship. Maa Kalratri is especially fond of offerings made from jaggery, so present jaggery or jaggery-based sweets as bhog.
  5. Mantra Chanting: Chant the following mantra to invoke her blessings and protection against untimely death:
    • ॐ कालरात्र्यै नमः (Om Kalratryai Namah)
    • ॐ ऐं ह्रीं क्लीं चामुण्डायै विच्चै ॐ फट् शत्रून साघय घातय ॐ (Om Aing Hreem Kleem Chamundaye Vichche Om Phat Shatruun Saadhay Ghaatay Om)
  6. Durga Saptashati: Conclude the worship by performing an aarti and reading or reciting the Durga Saptashati.
